Love is the Length of her Hair. Love through trauma, through grief, through loss.
Love as an object. Love as a chemical, Love as a memory. Love as absence.
Love through capital.

This exhibition was impacted by COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

Alex Cuffe, I grieve so much I forget who I am… can you remind me that I exist…? when I cry… I’m trying to be vulnerable… I want you to breath through the feeling in your chest as you wear this.., digital print of every time the artist has cried and taken a photo, cotton, stains from her car, borrowed unique clothes rack (with thanks to Isabella Darcy), 2015 – 2020, $50 each. (All profits donated to Indigenous families affected by deaths in custody).Alex Cuffe, Love is the Length of her Hair, installation shot.Alex Cuffe, We never asked each other… but I was to get married, as a woman, in another country, so I could receive healthcare and the right to live with a loved one… but… I felt so broken inside so we cancelled the wedding two days before… all I have left of that relationship is this engagement ring and these feelings… I went to get surgery and this ring couldn’t be removed so they cut it off before my body was cut and put back together a new, plaster, recycled silver, paint, hot glue, 2018-2020.Alex Cuffe, When the anaesthetic wore off the lights were so bright… the only thing they could offer was this wash cloth… I woke up screaming… all they could offer was this wash cloth… the first words I remember were addressed to a body of a different gender… I held the nurses hand smiling while my first words were to correct her… and all I have left is a wash cloth that will never be clean, cotton cloth, hair dye, 2019.Alex Cuffe, Uncanny Selfie, 2020.
