BADRA AJI (Indonesia)
SANS DIRECTION
20 Sept 2017—07 Oct 2017

The artist (Badra Aji) recounts his failure to navigate through a sense of displacement. As he returns to the city where he lived for sixteen years, he realises that it isn’t homesickness he feels. One could not possibly feel homesick before ‘home’ is properly located. As he continues to recall his experiences and it becomes apparent that being lost is the only familiar place. Based on true events.

Melbourne-based, Indonesian-born artist, Badra Aji graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2016. Upon the completion of his study, he received the TCB Art Inc Award and the prestigious Majlis Travelling Scholarship. Throughout his practice, he continued to draw directly from his personal experience, relationships and encounters. Working with photo-media, text, video, printmaking and drawing, he attempts to materialise his life as artefacts while exploring the gaps between the visual and verbal language to find a metaphoric poetry.
