“Our Future doesn’t have to be a fantastical world in which all wishes are granted and problems magically solved, but neither does it have to be fatalistic dystopia …crucially ….artists should agree that thinking about what might come next, rather than reflecting on what can’t or hasn’t, is the more productive and urgent enterprise” – Jonathan Griffin
Futurity is a body of sculptural based works that I have been working on for the last six months. My practice is based on an exploration into the nature of the constructed environments in which we live. I utilize the bond with home to direct a practice that focuses on the personal and public self. I am interested in the ways in which an artwork activates spaces and alters the way in which we inhabit a space; in which residential space becomes an integral element of the work. Each work reflects back on the space in which it is located, and draws the viewer’s focus to a particular element of how the architecture operates and dictates one’s interaction. These work are specifically focussing on changing architectural spaces with multiple function furniture fittings.
