Hello,

I am seeking your assistance to construct an art-object for my exhibition at TCB art inc. I require this assistance, as I will be in Beijing for the run of the show. You will be paid for your work with a token drink of your choice (as long as it’s beer or wine) at the exhibition’s opening reception on Wednesday 3rd December 2014! You are more than welcome to share and spread this challenge with as many people in Melbourne as you want.

I am nominating artist-friends to visit McDonald’s and KFC Restaurants in the CBD (see attached maps) and collect as many drinking straws as possible. Perhaps you’ll buy a token drink. If you choose to accept this challenge, you’re then invited to take the straws to the gallery (between the hours of 12pm and 6pm-ish on Tuesday 2nd December 2014) and join the straws together – one inside the other – to create loops in the gallery space. I hope these large loops will get entangled or merge like a quasi-helix (see above image).

Beijing’s IKEA stores are important sites for courting and socializing. Everyday they’re flooded with elderly people who occupy the display living spaces for leisure. They only need to buy a token coffee. I’m interested the kinds of social activities that could be generated through a veritably antisocial act of exploiting the recourses made freely available by a corporate chain store. For this exhibition I’ll be elaborating this interest with an ASL-Ice-Bucket-Challenge-style project.

Many thanks in advance. Don’t hesitate to contact me or TCB if you require further information.

Hao
