MATTHEW GREAVES
Honesty
16 Nov 2016—19 Nov 2016

“The idea that truth is concealed and even perverted by the processes that are meant to establish it makes excellent sense”
—Paul Feyerabend

In the former location of the Communist Party of Australia Offices (TCB Art Inc.), Matthew Greaves presents a three-day long exhibition project across both galleries. The new works elaborate the magical and spiritualistic entanglements of Melbourne’s early anarchist-communist movements, and explore the ways in which mysticism enhances knowledge and politics.

Limited-edition catalogue printed by Dawn Press; and,
Séance with David A. Andrade, Frm. Hon. Sec. Melbourne Anarchist Club:
2–3pm Thursday 17th November
Places limited, RSVP +61 452 006 026

This project is the outcome of a State Library Victoria Fellowship.

Matthew Greaves is an artist interested in half-truths and political histories. He is one-third of Normal Gallery, a collaboration recently working within non-art contexts in the Asia-Pacific. He has exhibited nationally and internationally at spaces including West Space, Melbourne; Ryan Renshaw Gallery, Brisbane; Success, Fremantle; Appendix Project Space, Portland, OR (USA); and Institute for Provocation, Beijing (PRC). He was the joint recipient of the Keith & Elisabeth Murdoch Travelling Fellowship, 2013; and is an outgoing Creative Fellow at the State Library of Victoria, 2016.
